So what is hypnosis or hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis or hypnotherapy has traditionally been considered an aid to psychotherapy (counseling or therapy), because it allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds.
It has long been used to move beyond the confines of traditional counselling and psychotherapy so that change can be created at a fundamental level within the sub-conscious mind which will in turn create change within your conscious awareness. In addition, hypnotherapy and hypnosis enable people to perceive some things differently, such as blocking an awareness of pain for example.
So how does hypnotherapy or hypnosis work?
The state commonly referred to as hypnosis can be used in two key ways, as "suggestion therapy" ( sometimes known as behavioural re-programming ) or for personal analysis.
Suggestion based hypnosis for therapy: A hypnotic state helps a person to be better able to respond to positive behavioural changing suggestions. Not to be confused with hypnotherapy, hypnosis can help some people change certain behaviors, such as stopping smoking or nail biting. It can also help people change perceptions and sensations, and is particularly useful in treating pain. Due to it's simplified nature however, suggestion based hypnotic work can bring varying results which is why hypnotherapy has developed and evolved into a much more effective therapy. Holistic Hypnotherapy has sought to take this evolution in hypnotherapy to an even more effective level with it's holistic approach to behavioural solutions.
At Waking Life we practice Holistic Hypnotherapy which involves the Hypnotherapy for analysis and healing, as we've found this to be much more effective and long lasting than merely attempting to reprogram.
Analysis: The analysis approach uses the relaxed state to explore a psychological root cause of a disorder or symptom, such as anxiety and panic attacks or low confidence for example. Once the root cause has been uncovered, the ability to move through creating change becomes possible at a fundamental level.
This allows for successful change without the long term need for psychotherapy and counselling and can only be practiced by a formally trained hypnotherapist with a background in counselling and psychotherapy. Unfortunately we are seeing more and more, hypnosis practitioners advertising as hypnotherapists without the required training that is paramount not only to the success of any session but more importantly to the safety of each person seeking to utilise hypnotherapy for their life's challenges.
We always encourage you to do your homework on any hypnotherapist who's help you are seeking.
What are the benefits of hypnotherapy?
Holistic Hypnotherapy helps people to go deeper within themselves, guided and supported by a trained therapist, in order to discover what beliefs are holding them back. It helps people to discover and then heal experiences from their past which left a negative imprint, causing them to believe something negative and limiting about themselves.
Holistic Hypnotherapy works with gentle relaxation states, similar to that of meditation, where you remain completely alert and awake, in order to contact the subconscious mind. Doing therapy and healing work on that level helps to create lasting and effective change, and reduces the prevalence of being triggered by other people and in life.
The benefits include being able to remain calm in situations that used to trigger or upset you, improved health, increased happiness, better sleep, reduced or eliminated anxiety, more energy, higher motivation levels, improved relationships, more life fulfillment, decrease in PTSD symptoms, reduction in pain, lower blood pressure, improved and healed addictions, and more.
